There is increasing concern regarding the public safety impact of cannabis legalization. However, the epidemiologic findings regarding legalization and crash risks have been mixed. This talk will briefly summarize what is known about the effects of cannabis on driving, and then provide an in-depth discussion of our recent publication, the largest of its type to date (n = 191 users), addressing driving simulator performance and the magnitude of the effects of acute cannabis exposure, the time course of impairment, the impact of different THC content levels, and users’ perception of driving safety vs. actual performance.
