Research Investments in Cannabis and Hemp Awarded

Five researchers at the University of California, Davis, are receiving investment grants from the campus to advance research and innovation focused on cannabis and hemp. The recipients of the grants are exploring various applications and insights related to breeding, human health, toxicology and economic development.

UC Davis Professor of Emergency Medicine Publishes Review on Cannabinoid Use

Professor John R. Richards, MD, in the UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine has published a review of the pharmacodynamics and molecular mechanisms behind cannabis and synthetic cannabinoid-induced acute coronary syndromes and arrhythmias in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology and Therapeutics titled "Mechanisms for the Risk of Acute Coronary Syndrome and Arrhythmia Associated With Phytogenic and Synthetic Cannabinoid Use." 

Company of UC Davis affiliate wins award

Haplotech Inc., a Canadian company founded by Dr. Rale Gjuric, current Director of Education in the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center and primary manager and instructor in the UC Davis Plant Breeding Academy program, has won NRGene’s Cannabis QuickGENETICS™ Contest. Haplotech was selected after presenting an innovative project that will adopt advanced genomic tools in their breeding program.

Study published on association of cannabis use and cardiac dysrhythmias

UC Davis Professor of Emergency Medicine John R. Richards and his team recently published a paper that analyzes pertinent medical literature on the association between cannabis use and cardiac dysrhythmia. Cannabis use results in elevation of heart rate and blood pressure immediately after use, primarily due to sympathetic nervous system stimulation and parasympathetic nervous system inhibition. These effects may precipitate cardiac dysrhythmia.

UC Davis Professor Tops Cannabis Scientist Power List 2020

The Cannabis Scientist, a cannabis industry publication, has announced the release of its inaugural Power List, which recognizes twenty of the most influential scientists in two key areas – cannabis analysis and cannabis R&D. UC Davis Professor of Chemistry Don Land tops the cannabis analysis list. 

November 12, 2020 Seed Central Forum will be on cannabis and hemp

Seed Central, an initiative of the Seed Biotechnology Center at UC Davis and Seedquest, holds monthly networking events titled "The Forum," and the November 12, 2020 Forum will be on the subject of cannabis and hemp. 

This event will take place at the Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center on the UC Davis campus at 4:00 PM with a panel discussion until 6:00 PM that (so far) includes the following panelists:
