Marker-Directed Breeding in Cannabis: Controlling Cannabinoid, Terpenoid, and Flavonoid Expression

Using chemical data for cannabinoid, terpenoid, and flavonoid production in Cannabis, we show how this data leads to an enhanced understanding and can be used to develop genetic markers that allow for the rapid production of a desired phenotype. The process of accelerating breeding projects using a combination of DNA, mRNA, and metabolome chemistry to develop novel chemical profiles in Cannabis with specific medicinal or agronomic properties will be discussed.
