Updates on the Effects of Prenatal Exposure to THC

Endocannabinoids, specifically anandamide acting at the CB1 receptor, are mobilized by oxytocin to mediate social reward.  In a collaboration between the Bauman and Bales labs, we hypothesized that prenatal exposure to THC would alter behavior in the offspring, including pair-bonding behavior in adult voles and social behavior in adult rats.  Today we will describe the progress made on the project and the challenges of setting up a new animal research project using Cannabis.

Airway Mucosal Effects of Vaped Cannabinoid Products

Cannabidiol (CBD) use is increasing due to its therapeutic potential. Inhalation by vaping CBD one means of administration but the effects of vaped cannabinoids are not well understood. We used nonhuman primate primary airway epithelial cells to model the effects of CBD vaping at the interface of the lung and inhaled environment, the airway mucosa.
