State of California Offers Prop 64 Research Funding to Public Universities

The Bureau of Cannabis Control announced on September 17, 2020 a Request for Proposals (RFP) for university research grants for public universities in California. The Bureau has $30 million to be disbursed for research projects related to the implementation and effect of Proposition 64.

Research proposals must fall within one of the several specified categories, including public health, criminal justice and public safety, economic, environmental impacts, and the cannabis industry. A detailed description of the list of research subjects for grant funding can be found in Revenue and Taxation Code section 34019.

Grant funds are available to public universities in California, and applicants may be awarded up to $2 million for any specific proposal.

Questions related to this RFP must be submitted to the Bureau in writing no later than 11:59 p.m. on September 24, 2020, at BCCGrants@dca.ca.gov.

All applications must be completed and submitted electronically through an online portal. All applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. on October 19, 2020. Grant recipients will be notified on November 6, 2020. Additional information may be found on the Bureau’s website.
