Structure, Function and Evolution of the Cannabinoid Synthase Family in Cannabis

Keith Allen, Director, Bioinformatics, Front Range Biosciences

Cannabinoids in Cannabis are made by a specialized family of enzymes that has undergone multiple waves of expansion and neo-functionalization. Dr. Allen will talk about the world they have done describe this family, including the characterization of four previously undescribed enzymes. I will also propose a model for the expansion of this family after speciation of Cannabis based on shared genomic signatures.
